Southwark Law Centre is seeking to recruit an experienced 3 day per week welfare benefits caseworker, based at our busy office in Peckham. You will join a team of 2 other experienced part time welfare rights caseworkers. Southwark Law Centre also provides specialist advice in housing, immigration, employment, community care and public law.
You will provide expert advice, advocacy, casework and Tribunal representation across the whole range of welfare benefits law.
You will have a detailed knowledge of the benefits system and a minimum of 2 years recent casework experience. You will demonstrate that you meet the Legal Aid Agency welfare benefits casework supervisor requirements, or can meet these within 1 year.
You will also have recent experience of representation before the First-tier Tribunal and of drafting submissions to the Upper Tribunal.
You will be able to undertake legal and case law research to progress cases and will be aware of continuing changes to welfare benefits law. You will have a clear understanding of the application of Judicial Review in welfare benefits cases.
