Commons Law (London) - Criminal solicitor

We set up a co-operative not-for-profit criminal law firm -Commons Legal- so that we could do legal work in a different and more sustainable way. We’re expanding and need to recruit a criminal lawyer with a commitment to social justice who, following a probationary period, wants to join us and have an equal say in the running of the firm.
If you want to join a new type of progressive legal practice, you will have:
  • experience either as a solicitor or barrister in conducting criminal litigation;
  • a demonstrable interest in civil liberties and human rights;
  • strong academic credentials;
  • the ambition, energy and enthusiasm to play a full part in the development of the organisation;
  • the ability to provide first rate legal advice and representation, whether on Legal Aid or privately-funded cases;
  • police station accreditation and membership of the Law Society CLAS duty solicitor scheme are an advantage.
The role will include advising and representing clients pre-charge and during criminal litigation and exploring and innovating around the design and delivery of our criminal justice project work.
We will consider applicants who are interested in working on a part time basis.
