New SRA consultation

YLAL has responded to the new consultation of the Solicitors Regulation Authority, "Training for Tomorrow: Regulation Review".

This consultation aims to remove unnecessary regulatory burdens and improve processes for the regulator. It is part of a wider package of reform for the SRA’s regulatory framework for legal education and training.

This consultation is relevant to junior lawyers as the outcome will affect important things like the amount of SRA oversight over your training contract, the standard terms of your contract and what studies and training could be used to qualify as a solicitor if you don't follow the traditional law degree/GDL/LPC and training contract route.

Read more about it here. Read our response below.

We will be meeting the SRA to discuss the perspective of junior legal aid lawyers on this consultation. We welcome your views to share with them. Please email ylalinfo@gmail.com if you have any comments.

The SRA has further consultations as part of its reform package including proposals on a new CPD scheme and “competence framework” that will specify the knowledge, skills and behaviours required of newly qualified solicitors. If you would like to contribute to our responses to these consultations then please email us: ylalinfo@gmail.com.
