North West London Law Centres is a charity incorporating the Brent and Camden Community Law Centres. Its mission is to make a positive impact to people’s lives – particularly the most vulnerable and socially excluded. We do this by providing free and independent legal advice and representation in employment, housing, welfare benefits, asylum and immigration law for people living, working and studying in Brent and Camden.

Job Title: Caseworker / solicitor
Department: Public Law (Claims Against Public Authorities)
Salary: £35,000pa (subject to experience)

Northwest London Law Centres (NWLLC) seeks an experienced caseworker/solicitor to join our Public Law team. The candidate will undertake a mixed caseload of complaints and civil claims against the police and other public authorities and judicial reviews. The work will involve working under Legal Aid Agency (LAA) public funding requirements and the successful candidate must demonstrate compliance with the current supervisor requirements for the legal aid CAPA contract.

Key skills required

  • A solicitor/caseworker with 2 years’ experience in claims against public authorities
  • Experience of working on LAA public funding work including legal help and licensed work.
  • Ability to demonstrate experience in all areas of Claimant litigation.
  • Strong research, analytical and thinking skills.
  • Knowledge and practical experience of applications for judicial review.
  • Well developed interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Effective organisational ability, ability to work to tight deadlines under pressure.
  • Demonstrate compliance with LAA supervisor requirements.
