Release (London / hybrid) – Legal Adviser

Release is the UK’s national centre of expertise on drugs and drug law. Established in 1967, it is an independent, registered charity providing free, non-judgmental, specialist advice to the public and professionals on drug use and related legal issues. Our policy work is driven by the experiences of our clients, and we advocate for evidence-based drug policies grounded in public health, human rights, and social justice.

We are seeking a Legal Adviser to join our amazing social justice legal team in London. The ideal candidate will be committed to championing the legal and human rights of individuals affected by drug use and drug policy.

Key Responsibilities:
• Deliver at two legal outreach services a week at treatment centres in London, and with training, our virtual outreach services nationwide.
• Complete casework for assistance provided at the services on welfare benefits, housing, and debt issues.
• Provide legal advice on drug-related issues (training provided).
• Contribute to our specialist publications and policy responses.
• Support the development of our website and digital services, ensuring legal compliance.

Essential Requirements:
• Completion of LLB, GDL. or SQE Level 1 (or equivalent qualification)
• Minimum six months’ experience in social welfare legal advice and casework in areas such as crime, housing, benefits, or debt.

Details:
• Salary: £28,000 – £31,000 + 5% pension
• Contract: Permanent, 35 hours/week
• Holidays: 29 days + public holidays
• Location: Hybrid – Spitalfields, London / Remote (minimum 3 days in the office)

• Start Date: Ideally March/April 2026 An enhanced DBS check will be required for the successful candidate.
