Southwark Law Centre (London) – Public Law Paralegal

Salary: NJC SP 9–13 £31,884 – £33,780 per annum, pro rata (dependent on relevant experience)
Hours: 21 hours per week
Contract: Fixed Term – 1 Year

Southwark Law Centre are looking for a committed, part time Public Law Paralegal to join our team in Southwark and support our strategic litigation and public law casework.

This role is more than just legal support—it’s about holding public bodies to account, advancing fairness, and supporting communities facing injustice. You will work closely with our public law team on important challenges to unlawful decision-making that affect disadvantaged groups.

As a key member of our team, you will play an essential role in preparing and progressing public law cases, supporting clients through complex processes, and contributing to our wider strategic litigation work that tackles systemic issues and creates lasting impact.

What You’ll Be Doing:
– Supporting the public law team with case preparation, drafting, and legal research.
– Interviewing clients and helping assess eligibility for legal support.
– Managing correspondence and maintaining accurate case records.
– Attending tribunals, hearings, and meetings alongside clients and caseworkers.

Starting salary and relevant experience
The Law Centre criteria for starting salaries ensures that all relevant experience is recognised fairly. The post holder’s salary will increase by 1 point each year until the top of the scale is reached within NJC payscales. In addition, the Law Centre pays cost of living increases agreed nationally by the NJC.
Relevant experience 1–2 years: SP9 £31,884 (pro rata)
Relevant experience 2–5 years: SP11 £32,817 (pro rata)
Relevant experience 5 years +: SP13 £33,780 (pro rata)
