Wilsons Solicitors is looking for a dynamic solicitor with at least 3 years post-qualification experience to join their highly regarded and expanding Public Law & Human Rights department.

The Role
We are looking for a solicitor with 3 years post-qualification experience in our practice areas who either meet the Legal Aid Agency supervisor requirements in the Public Law and/or Claims against Public Authorities and/or Community Care categories, or would be willing and able to do so within one year of joining us.

Essential requirements
Qualifications and experience:
- Qualified solicitor with 3+ years relevant PQE
- Experience of working on a publicly funded caseload
- Supervisor in or able to meet requirements to be a supervisor in next 12 months in any of Public Law, Community Care or CAPA legal aid categories
- A strong interest in at least one relevant area of law which you have or would like to develop an expertise in and which can be done under a Public Law and/or CAPA and/or Community Care contract
- Experience of supervision of another fee earner whether or not as a LAA category supervisor
- Motivation for and a commitment to working in a mixed legal aid/private practice such as Wilson Solicitors.
- Commitment to a long-term career in legal practice.
Practice skills:
- Interviewing skills – ability to interview clients, take their instructions and advise them.
- Ability to communicate clearly & effectively in written English – so as to advise clients and make written representations.
- Ability to prioritise own workload – in a busy and deadline driven environment
- Ability to deal effectively with bureaucracy including the Legal Aid Agency
- Ability to conduct research, both legal and evidential
- Ability to use IT systems, be self-servicing in respect to document production and learn new IT skills as required
- Time management skills – to manage your time effectively and record time spent so as to meet an annual time recording target. To be able to meet a chargeable hours target of 6 chargeable hours a day over a 42 week year.
- Ability to understand and apply the Legal Aid Agency rules and practice pertaining to funding if doing publicly funded work.
- The commercial awareness to understand the importance to a legal aid practice of meeting an annual billing target, and the ability to meet a target of 2.7x salary[1].
- If undertaking privately funded work the ability to deal confidently with clients in respect to costs and the payment of fees.

- Voluntary, paid or campaign work demonstrating a commitment to civil liberties in particular to migrant communities
