Join the YLAL committee: applications now open!

Are you looking for a new challenge? YLAL has opportunities for dedicated members to join our national committee and contribute to helping to develop and lead our work.  Find out more and put in an application!

How does YLAL structure its work?

YLAL’s work falls into three main areas: 1. legal aid policy, 2. social mobility; and 3. membership support. We coordinate this work through three ‘teams’, which are each managed by one of YLAL’s three co-chairs, and made up of other members of the committee. Further details are set out in the application form

Why are we recruiting?

Some of our committee members are moving on and we’re looking to bring in some new members to help take YLAL forwards into the future, provide better representation for our members and become a more effective campaigning organisation. Experience practicing law is not necessarily a pre-requisite to being a YLAL committee member, nor should you feel that you are too junior to apply – we welcome applications from those who are relatively early on in their legal career, including students and paralegals.

Promoting social mobility in the legal profession has been at the forefront of YLAL’s campaigning work. In light of the Black Lives Matter movement we have taken an honest look internally and are working to make the YLAL committee more racially diverse and more representative of our members and the people we represent. We would very much appreciate if you would complete an anonymous questionnaire that will be completely separate to your application, in order to enable us to collect this important data. A link to this will appear after you have submitted your application. We are also looking to recruit a Diversity Officer within the committee. If this is a position you would be interested in, please do let us know through your application.

Please note that we will be placing particular weight on applications from individuals who have previously been involved in YLAL’s work. More info about what we’re looking for in new committee members can be found in the application form

What is the application process?

Applications are submitted via a GoogleForm.

Applications close at 11.59pm on Sunday 30th August 2020, and we will get back to you about your application at the beginning of September.

If you have any questions about the recruitment process, please do not hesitate to email us here. We look forward to receiving your application!
